New Territories

The Carrot Concept @”New Territories Lab”, an exhibition by Mad Museum NYC

From November 4th. 2014 to April 5th. 2015 you can find 3 pieces from our collection at Mad Museum New York City, representing El Salvador as a design hub of Latin America, together with 9 other cities.

New Territories explores contemporary design and its confluence with art and traditional crafts in Latin America.

This exhibition features work that represents different aspects of the intersection of design, craft and art that can be observed in contemporary practice. This convergence of artistic practices reflects what the Italian designer Gaetano Pesce has described as a “new territory” in contemporary creativity.

In order to encapsulate this new creative landscape production in Latin America New Territories: Laboratories for Design, Craft and Art in Latin America identifies several cities where the aspects of this “new territory” can be observed. These focus cities include Mexico City and Oaxaca in Mexico; Caracas in Venezuela; São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil; Santiago in Chile and Buenos Aires in Argentina; San Salvador in El Salvador and San Juan in Puerto Rico; and Havana in Cuba. These cities have been positioned as laboratories for such ideas such as:

> Moving crafts into the future through collaborations with artists and designers
> Conversations with artistic legacies
> Upcycling and repurposing objects
> Cultivating collectivity and experimentation in design and craft
> Developing new markets for design
> Navigating personal and civic space

The Carrot Concept – Wanted Design New York

“Expect the best from collaboration”

Wanted Design 2013 marked the beginning of the international journey of The Carrot Concept. It was a year or learning, understanding challenge, accepting responsibility, embracing community and creating collaborations. We received great recognition locally and internationally, so it’s no surprise we’re eager to participate for a second year at Wanted Design, looking for a great venue that merges talent with ample market possibilities in order to consolidate our market presence globally.

For 2014 we have decided to work and exploit our brand’s work philosophy: Collaboration. This new collection gathers incredible talent and amazing products from the fifth edition of CONTEMPO (Bi-Annual Design Contest in El Salvador), which took place during October 2013, and that was judged by Derek Chen, from Council Design, and Coleman Gutshall, from Bernhardt Design. All diversity of products selected and designed for The Carrot Concept’s new collection were curated in order to reflect local tradition and craftsmanship, but with
a global and fresh design perspective.

Our collection ranges from a floor lamp inspired by a local bird’s nest, to a modular shelving system, to a set of modern decorative toys, all detailed by a beautiful selection of colors and applied surface design.
